I posted a comment on a conservative blog with what I thought was a respectful critique of the nonsense I was witnessing. I didn't even call it "fucking nonsense." The blog was on a noted right wing crack pot, Cleon Skousen, that in many regards is the inspiration for the current Glen Beck nonsense. I found the blog as I was searching out Beck's progenitors. The person posting the blog advertised it as an open letter to detractors, but apparently this is a one way letter -- a lot like a straight guy's asshole, the shit can go out, but don't try and put anything up in there.
My comment was simple: The main defense of Mr. Skousen wasn't his ideas, because that would lead to abundant ridicule, but that he was a really great guy. I think this is pretty close to what I wrote before the comment was thrust into cyber-oblivion:
There is a logical inconsistency of relying on a person's goodness to prove his ideas right. A lot of real decent people have had some really stupid ideas.
I'm sure a lot of people feel that way about me, but apparently it was too critical for the moderator. Fortunately, the Internet provides me with a forum to circumvent the censorship. The problem is that none of the people that need to see what I was saying will see it. I'm sure that of the 23 comments at least one might of stopped and paused for a moment and that would have been a victory of communication.
I don't moderate my comments on The American Orgy. I'll delete comments if they are spam, but I won't censor. Stupid or vile commentary simply illustrates the stupidity and vileness of the commentor. If you can attack me logically, have at it.
That's my attitude towards comments as well: let them speak for themselves.
ReplyDeleteI like your pithy little comment that got censored. In Internet-land, you get bonus points for being clear and brief! :D
Oh the syncophancy (thanks), yet I crave conflict and the Internet is like a giant conflict filter.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, I like conflict because it challenges and forces me to be better, not conflict for the sake of conflict. I just don't feel all that challenged.
I just don't understand why fundamentalists can't get past my blog title and come on in and fuck around.
